Locale information for a language includes the script used by it, the basic
character set, collation order, format for numbers, as well as things like
month and weekday names, date/time format, currency symbols, salutations, and
yes/no expressions. Under Linux, the locale needs to be defined both for the C
library (glibc) which is used by all programs to output text messages, and for
the X windowing system which is used by all graphical programs, including
window managers and Gnome/KDE, etc.
